I was just toying around with the idea of a "new" new truck and hit the local Chevy store to check them out. There's just no way. You're talking close to $45k!
Even a nice 2010 that had all of the needs and none of the wants was around $25k.
I'd need a hell of a downstroke just to avoid a $600 payment on either.
After this wake up call I may just go ahead and stick a new mill in my current truck and run it another 100k or so..

Nowadays mid size trucks are nearly the size that large truck were just 10-15 yrs ago.

Only reason I'd need a truck is to tow/haul my crap and I don't know how the Tacoma would cope unfortunately. Otherwise they are pretty awesome.

That's ridiculous. I got my previous truck brand new in 2011 (crew cab, leather, etc.) for $28K out the door with all the rebates and incentives. I guess they don't have much in the way of rebates right now. Sucks.

Well, there was that weird V8 version of the Dodge Dakota although I guess that's not really on the market anymore. Pity those were made by Chrysler/Mitsubiti, I feel like they could've been a pretty tempting product if they came from somebody else. You could probably tow a decent amount of weight without too much extra bulk

Im talking over 10,000 pounds unfortunately. Otherwise I'd already own a Ranger or a Dakota or a Tacoma or something similar.

I thought about a Taco. The towing is what gets me.
I need to be able to go at least 8200 lbs and sometimes close to 11k.
If it weren't for that I'd be fine.
I usually borrow a friend's truck or rent one but that's getting a bit cumbersome as the need happens more often.

I was thinking around $30-35k without leather. New..

I'm a Fleet Manager for a large construction company and I buy 10-15 new Chevy's a month. Depending on trim, it can get out of hand fast, even with our fleet discounts.
We usually go with the Silverado 1500, 4x4, V8 and the only options we go with now are the "All Star Package" and the heated seats. Stays just under $40k with that.
the only cool thing is after 36 months we sell the truck off usually for between 25 and 30 percent off the trade in value to our employees or friends and customers.

I'll be curious to see where the new Colorado's price point is. I'm sure you could easily top $30K with V6/4wd/leather.

I'm a bit curious too. Tow rating is my biggest hangup on a "midsize" truck too.
I don't need Leather, with 2 Black Labs it's not practical. I'd take it on a used truck at the right price but New. No.

I think the most I've ever seen was about 6k lbs properly equipped. Hell, my old F150 with factory tow package was only 6500lbs. That's a number that the average Joe would be hard pressed to exceed.

The Tundras usually have a lot of money on the hood. I have a crewmax 4x4 with towing/convenience and left the lot just a tick over 30k. My neighbor's Rock Warrior (in the double cab, Toyota's cab naming conventions are annoying) was 33k. If you're not averse to a Toyota, check them out.

And diesel won't help here. Try to configure a Ram "Ecodiesel", I don't think you can get them below 42k$..

All I know that is in small town south GA, the new Silverados and F150s are selling like hot cakes. They're everywhere. ANd most of them have a trailer attached, which makes me happy.
